An Informed Consumer
Now that all federal employees can use PlanSmartChoice to become more informed consumers of their health care, Asparity has the opportunity to share our consumer behavior data with health plans. Health plans are an important part of the PlanSmartChoice experience for federal employees. The site provides information about benefit plans, employee premiums, service areas, and other features that Asparity obtains from the Office of Personnel Management. The average federal employee has a choice of 25 health plan options, and PlanSmartChoice helps them to evaluate their options and make an informed choice.
While Asparity's goal is to help federal employees become more informed consumers of their health care, we also want health plans to offer products that truly meet these consumers’ personal and financial needs. More than 200 health plans provide health insurance to federal employees (and retirees) through the Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) program, and their experience varies considerably:
